Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has posited that the background of a child whether good or bad is not a barrier to actualising his goal in life. Okorocha who stated this while conducting the chairman and founder of the African Independent Television (AIT), Chief Raymond Dopkesi round the Rochas Foundation in Owerri, noted that most great leaders who ruled their countries were not from rich backgrounds.

He said, “Here, we try to make these children believe that their background will not stop them from becoming what they want to be. So we train them to walk tall and with pride because their future is secured. Here we transform them to be leaders that can believe in themselves.”

Okorocha explained that the foundation was one of the projects that God has destined to be a leading institution to raise promising African children, adding, “When we started this project, we did not know that it would take this dimension but this is God’s project and as we go along this journey, God shapes this project to suit what he wants.”

He added that the foundation was initially established to provide education for a few until its recent expansion, which has helped in promoting African unity using the children selected from the various African countries.

“I thought I was providing education but I have come to see that we are providing unity for our continent. What gladdens my heart is that we have been looking for a partner to tell the world about this new African union. I am looking for partners who will take this story beyond the shores of this land. I believe that the unity of Africa begins with these children who are bound together in love.

When one of them falls sick,, all of them become sick because they are worried about their true brother or sister. This is the real African spirit. Every child here is a story, and that can only be an act of God and not man. Dokpesi said he was excited by what he saw in the college and vision behind it, pledging to contribute his quota to the growth of the foundation.
