The Executive Committee of Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), headed by its President, Israel Akanji, has approved the appointment of Joan Olatoyosi Ayo, as the new Pro-Chancellor of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State. Ayo took over from Oluwole Abegunde.

Speaking at the official reception for the new pro-chancellor and thanksgiving service organised for her predecessor, Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, expressed satisfaction with the works of the immediate past pro-chancellor.

Ogunwole said: “The emergence of Ayo, a retired Federal Permanent Secretary and former Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission, marks the beginning of a new era in Bowen University. The university is fortunate to have experienced pro- chancellor over the years. We are optimistic that she has what it takes to move the university forward.

Akanji said the six years involvement of Abegunde as pro-chancellor was a blessing to the institution, as it enhanced its development in terms of academic and physical activities.

On funding, Akanji said Bowen University would continue to source for funds through collaborations with different organisations, to ensure the smooth running of the institution in terms of teaching and research.

“It is high time the Federal Government extended financial support to private institutions, the development would go a long way to fortify private universities’ efforts to education development.

Responding, the new Pro-chancellor, said her administration would be centred on students and policies that would promote godliness, excellence and leadership.
