Centre gets approval to run postgraduate programmes

Prof. Babatunde Ope Davies

Founder, Centre for Digital Humanities (CEDHUL), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Babatunde Ope Davies, has announced plans by the organisation to commence postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

Already, he said courses already approved by UNILAG’s School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) would take off next academic session. Ope-Davies, who described the centre as first of its kind in Africa, described Digital Humanities as an inter-disciplinary field that integrates computer technology methodologies into traditional disciplines such as philosophy, literature, and history.

He said: “Our goal is to enhance the impact of traditional humanities by utilising technology to project, process, and share research outcomes with greater effectiveness.”

The university teacher stated that the graduate programmes would enhance students’ skill sets, making them better suited for the job market and expanding possible paths for entrepreneurship beyond modernising and improving research capacities. Ope-Davies summed up the innovation as a hybrid mode, following the model of the University of Lagos postgraduate school, which approved the courses.
