CMS old boys lay foundation for $2.5m ICT hub

Former students of CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos State, have laid the foundation for the construction of a $2.5 million Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre in their alma mater.

The project is meant to prepare the students for the future of technology. Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, Prof. Samuel Adebonojo said he conceived the idea of the ICT centre identifying the need to give back to the school that made him.

Adebonojo explained that the idea behind the ICT centre was to enable the students to improve their digital knowledge, to make them globally competitive and prepare them for the world of work.

While urging the students to see their education as a privilege. Adebonojo enjoined them to be disciplined, honest and embrace the need to give back to their alma mater.

On his part, the President, United Kingdom and Europe chapter, Mobolaji Lewis, said the centre was conceived to give the younger generation the ability to take on the future.

“The CMS Grammar School has always been an innovative centre for education. We pioneered secondary school education in Nigeria in 1859, and here we are, pioneering the future.

“We want to give our boys the ability and capacity to take on the future. If we were not equipped, we would not have reached where we are today. We need to equip the boys with the tools needed for the future, including machine learning, robotics and drone engineering. That is why the ICT centre is important,” Lewis said.

Another old student, Akin Popoola, expressed hope that the centre will prepare students for robotic and technical learning, such that the students can start their business enterprises.
