COEASU threatens strike

President, Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Mr. Nuhu Ogirima, has warned that the union might commence another strike owing to government’s failure to accede to their demands.

Ogirima lamented that government appears to place one union’s demand above the others, as it has fulfilled the demands of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), neglecting that of COEASU.

He said: “What we require is one 10th of what the universities are asking for, but the government left ours completely and saw to the demands of the universities. They promised to release funds in December and they did not, now they have listened to SSANU and NASU and we have been abandoned.
“The future of the education industry is the colleges of education, what happens to the education of our youths? We are consulting with our people towards the possibility of another strike and a final decision will be made soon,” he stated.
