
• Inaugurates blocks of classrooms
As part of efforts aimed at providing qualitative education, the Chairman, Ikorodu local Government Area, Wasiu Adeshina, recently inaugurated five blocks of classrooms at Salvation Army Primary School, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Speaking at the ceremony, Adeshina described education as the key that unlocks doors. He disclosed that the new classrooms are testimony of his administration’s tradition of long lasting legacy projects, and the realisation of putting education at the centre of development.
Pointing out that the project would provide a conducive learning environment for students, the council chief noted that every child deserves qualitative education.
“I commend the dedicated teachers and construction team for their tireless efforts in making this vision a reality.” On his part, Board Member, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Saheed Oladapo Ibikunle, identified one of their needs as human capital development, which is education.
He insisted every child must be given access to education to tackle the increasing menace of out-of-school children.
In order to bridge education gaps, he said there is an intervention called ‘Project Zero,’ where packs containing exercise books, shoes, socks and pencils are given to indigent children.
Commending the chairman for the laudable gesture, Ibikunle called on other stakeholders to emulate the council boss and intervene in the sector.
Chairman, Governing Council, Lagos State University (LASU) David Sumoni, who was an alumnus of the school, assured of his continuous support to the school, even as he urged the teachers to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities.
The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, commended the Chairman for the initiative, which is aimed at changing the narrative of education in the Ikorodu area of the state.
He also urged leaders who have benefited from the school to give back to the community. Dignitaries at the occasion included Former deputy governor of Lagos State, Abiodun Ogunleye, former Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Kaoli Olusanya, and Alagura of Agura, Oba Ahmed Moruf Ogunnaike, among others.
