Chief Executive Officer, Greensprings School, Mrs. Lai Koiki has reiterated the importance of the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) among students.

Speaking at the school’s Sixth Form class of 2019 prize and graduation event, Koiki said that the school’s IBDP develops world-class students who are equipped with the modern knowledge and skills to function productively anywhere in the world. She said sixth form education provides learners with great progression to higher education, prepares them mentally and socially; and gives them a wide variety of academic choices as they go through the rigorous programme.

“However, it is a programme that people that want shortcut do not go for. Most universities around the world actually prefer children that have IBDP because already the groundwork has been done in preparing these children for university life. They have learned time management, they have done a bit of what will be done in the university, and they have written a mini-thesis.

“Through the use of current teaching methods, up to date technology and purpose-built infrastructure, I am glad to announce that we have achieved great academic work and balanced social life with these set. I am very proud because a lot of effort has gone into it.

We have all worked hard because it takes the whole community to make things work and that community includes our parents.”Koiki further stated that the students have been pushed with a lot of work and deadlines because these are things they are going to experience when there is no one there to monitor their activities in the higher institutions.

“With what they have experienced here, they know what is really going into the university. So this is a programme I will advise people to go for especially in this age of being too much in a hurry to send children to school. You need these children to be strong not just academically, but also accruing the right maturity, the right social skill and being able to stand firm under intense pressure of both academics and pleasure.”

On her part, Principal, Sixth Form, Jennifer Sunkanmi-Qazzeem, said the students got for themselves highest number of scholarship so far and we have every expectation that they are going to do very well when they get to university. “They are so very passionate of community service, we started it some years ago and we stopped and this set decided they are going to start it again it was extremely challenging for them to make that event happen but they did make it happen,” the principal said.
