Eight AAUA lecturers rank among top 2% global scientists
Eight academics from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, have been ranked among the top two percent of global scientists in the latest Stanford-Elsevier ranking.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, disclosed that the global recognition of the lecturers was the result of the university’s consistent research efforts and its commitment to innovation.
Ige, speaking during a press briefing to herald the 13th convocation ceremony of the institution, said the ranking has not only highlighted the quality of education and mentorship at the university but also reaffirmed the world-class standards of its academic and research capabilities.
While listing the achievements of the institution, the Vice-Chancellor revealed that, during the convocation ceremony, which also coincides with the 25th anniversary of the university, a total of 6,837 graduands from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions would be graduating.
Ige said that 62 students achieved First Class status, 1,941 earned Second Class (Upper Division), 3,486 attained Second Class (Lower Division), 684 graduated with Third Class, and eight graduands fall into the Pass category.
He said, “It demonstrates that our staff are not just contributing to knowledge but are doing so at the highest global standards. Furthermore, we are confident that similar global assessments in fields such as social sciences, arts, and humanities will reveal equally impressive achievements by our staff in these disciplines.
“It is against this backdrop that I proudly assert that our graduands have been nurtured and mentored by a truly world-class workforce. They have had the privilege of learning from some of the finest minds in academia, whose contributions go far beyond the confines of our classrooms and echo across the global academic community.
“In addition to the international recognition of our distinguished academics, our university continues to shine as a hub of innovative research.”
The VC further stressed that under his leadership, emerging issues have been addressed with visionary leadership and impactful programs have been created.
He added, “We are also conferring honorary degrees on three distinguished Nigerians for their outstanding contributions to society: His Excellency Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa (Doctor of Public Administration, Honoris Causa), Hon. Adegboyega Adeyemi Adefarati (Doctor of Political Science, Honoris Causa), and Mr. Hazmat Ayodele Subair (Doctor of Business Administration, Honoris Causa).”
