Since the inception of its operations of the Otakikpo marginal field, Green Energy International Limited (GEIL) has continuously recognized its responsibility to create prosperity for the society especially its host communities by addressing poverty and related development deficit.

The thrust of the Company’s CSR and Sustainability work is targeted to capacity building, empowerment of communities, socio-economic growth, and environment protection.

As such, Green Energy International Limited has continued to strengthen communities’ capacity to drive their own development agenda and improve their quality of life, through the provision of scholarship schemes, medical outreaches, learning infrastructure & development of community utilities, award to local contractors and employments, community investment projects, provision of security infrastructures and promotion of poverty alleviation programmes in our target communities of Ikuru Town, Ugama Ekede, Ayama Ekede, Asuk Ama and Asuk Oyet located in Andoni Local government area of Rivers state.

The Chairman of Green Energy International, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe in a stakeholder meeting recently, expressed that the company is positioned as drivers of economic and social change, especially for young people in the region. In his words, “we believe that when you empower a child, you have empowered a community, and then the society at large benefits.”

The Company’s records are an irrefutable testimony to these intents as it has sustained its signature CSR programmes to build capacity and improve human capital in the delivery of development outcomes. In 2018 the Company extended its support to human capacity development through our scholarship scheme called “Green Energy Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship Programme”.

Since the launch of the program, Green Energy International Limited has successfully awarded over 107 scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students in Nigerian public universities, through a competitive selection of Andoni-targeted applicants.

Green Energy has also extended scholarship awards to post-primary students from host communities and the rest of Andoni LGA with a target of over 300 beneficiaries. In addition, we have funded 24 post-graduates, 154 undergraduates, 59 Polytechnic students, 18 School of Nursing students and training of two Boeing 737 pilots under the Ikuru Town Bursary Awards programme.

The Company has taken keen interest in its scholarships programme to cover key professional disciplines of preponderant area of study that underscores GEIL’s particular emphasis on aiming our host community’s youth with training in technological, scientific, engineering, administrative, law, digital, and industrial development professions-skill set that would be in highest demand in the global market with vehement capabilities and innovations.

In furtherance of these efforts, the Company has also designed a technical and engineering internship programme, through which the best and brightest host-community and other Andoni students in tertiary education will be invited to develop practical learning and experience gathering in the company.

The company pledged to continue to make giant investments in the broader areas of education, which is a key achievement to the UN sustainable development goals, noting that the existence and continuation of its scholarship and internship programme would provide opportunities to Andoni youths to become more increasingly interested in building their capacity that inspires social change.
