JAMB pledges to resolve exam issues before releasing UTME results

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has pledged to resolve all examination issues before releasing the results of its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).The Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja, at a press conference on the conduct of the 2018 UTME.

He said the decision became necessary to avoid unnecessary cancellation of results. On the 2018 UTME, he revealed that 1,662,762 candidates are expected to sit for the examination.

Oloyede said the figures show a decrease of 55,642 applicants, when compared with last year’s 1,718,425, representing a decrease of 3.2 per cent.According to him, the findings were largely due to the measures that the board had put in place to forestall multiple registrations and other unwholesome practices by candidates.

The registrar said 367 visually impaired candidates registered for this year’s examination, as against the 201 of last year.He added: “The board will continue to provide all necessary support and logistics to the physically-challenged candidates for them to attain their educational pursuit.”He disclosed that 6500 permanent and ad hoc officials would be deployed in the examination.

Oloyede added that the result of the mock examination, which JAMB introduced last year to give candidates hands-on experience, and also check the board’s preparedness, has been released. He urged “candidates who have not checked their results to visit, with their registration details.

The registrar charged the candidates to adhere strictly to the dates and time allotted to them, warning that there shall be no rescheduling of examinations. He lamented the cases of candidates who are being defrauded by syndicates.“During the registration period, with the cooperation of the security agencies, we arrested some of these syndicates,” he said.
