LASTVEB partners Slot to train technical teachers
TO help improve their capacity, the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB), in collaboration with Slot Systems Limited, have concluded plans to train technical teachers in the state through Teachers Industrial Works Experience Scheme (TIWES).
The electronic and computing training, which is ongoing, is designed to expose teachers to recent trends in technical education. It would end on Monday, August 31, 2015.
Speaking at a briefing in Lagos, the Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Mr. Olawumi Gasper, said the initiative arose out of the need to keep teachers abreast of recent developments in technology.
According to him, “The teachers’ industrial work experience was designed to enable our instructors and the teachers interact on best practices in the industry, and this happens during the long vacation.
Technical education is the way out and a form of education that allows one to earn money while still learning, and it can assist our youths.”
Chief Executive Officer of the partnering firm, Mr. Nnamdi Ezeigbo urged the participating teachers to make good use of the opportunity. “The importance of vocational training cannot be over emphasised.
It is the beginning and bottom of wealth. Most business owners built their businesses on the strength of their vocational training experience.” , and so your training is a way of preparing you for the future, to bring growth to the society.”
Also, Director, Technical and Vocational Services of LASTVEB, Mr. Laolu Oguntuyi, remarked that the value of students depends solely on the quality of teachers, thus the need for training and retraining. “It is in this light that teachers are exposed to this training during the summer.
We are moving with the world, that is the reason why we make it mandatory for our teachers to spend not less than two weeks to acquire industrial skills.”
Training coordinator for SLOT, Mr. Collins Owadia, who is also a product of technical college, said the importance of the training could not be over-emphasised, as technology was advancing in both education and day-to-day living.
