MAAUN shuts two female hostels over immorality, unauthorised night movement

The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has announced the immediate closure of two off-campus female hostels—Al-Ansar Indabo—located at UDB Road and Hotoro in Kano metropolis over violations ranging from immoral behaviour to unauthorised night movement.

The development was disclosed in a statement released Monday by the university’s Vice President for Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba.

According to the statement, the university has withdrawn its approval for the hostels due to violations of its code of conduct and failure to comply with standards for student accommodation.

“I am directed by the management to write, inform, and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents and students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo female students hostels located at UDB Road and Hotoro,” the statement read.

Dr. Garba said the decision followed reports of disciplinary and safety-related infractions at the facilities. These include immoral behaviour, inadequate water and electricity supply, incidents of student violence, unauthorised night movement, and the sharing of hostel space with unidentified individuals.

“These issues pose a serious threat to the well-being of our students,” he said.

The university directed all students residing in the affected hostels to vacate the premises immediately after the end of the current semester’s examinations. Students were also warned against any further association with the hostels.

“Management is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure total compliance with the directive,” the statement added.

Parents and students were advised to contact the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life, through the official email — [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) — for information on alternative university-approved accommodations.

The statement concluded by noting that the university will not be held responsible for any outcomes resulting from non-compliance with the directive.
