Professor of mathematics at the University of Ibadan, Olabisi Ugbebor, has counseled graduating students of Jextoban Secondary School, Ibafo, Ogun State, to be discerning in their choices as they get set for tertiary education.

Specifically, she admonished them to build on the values and virtues instilled in them throughout their stay in the school as newfound freedoms, especially in tertiary institutions have a way of throwing many off balance.

Speaking during the 2015 valedictory/graduation ceremony of the school, Ugbebor who was the guest speaker said, “Higher institution is a place of freedom for young people. You have to live with all the virtues inculcated in you; develop your God-given talents and God will bless you exponentially,” she advised.

Chairman, Board of Governors of the school, Pastor Emmanuel Adedayo Ojo, has lauded the Class of 2015 for their excellent performances in all the terminal and external examinations, saying the remarkable performance of the graduating set has brought to the fore, the persistent effort of teaching staff and administrators of the school.

“Our students have continued to perform excellently well in all examinations. In the 2014 Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examination, Paul Ofili, one of the graduands passed all his seven subjects with straight A’s of which three were A*. It is instructive to note that A* is a score of 91-100 per cent, while A is 81-90 per cent.

“Reports from our products show that they are making their marks in various institutions of higher learning locally and internationally. To date, no less than 12 of them have bagged their first degrees in the First Class Division. This is as a result of the solid academic and godly foundation laid for them,” he stated.

While acknowledging God as the one behind the achievements recorded by the school, he commended the proprietress, Mrs. Adunola Ajibola Ojo for her motherly disposition, and staff members, whom he described as a “crop of committed, loyal and well focused faculty men and women,” for their contributions to the growth of the school.

To the graduating students, he said, “Dare to be a Daniel. The society in which you are living and will be stepping into is fraught with intimidating challenges. You will be confronted with the dilemma of whether to stand alone or join the maddening crowd. Deceit, power struggle, cultism, wealth acquisition by all means and all kinds of vices are prevalent. In all these, you must survive and stand out as the lily stands in the midst of mire.”

In their respective remarks, the principals of Lagos and Ogun campuses of the school, Mr. Emmanuel Adegoke and Mr. Aigbefoh Victor, remarked that the graduands were firmly prepared to face higher academic challenges as evidenced in their individual performances.

Agboola Titilayo Mary received the valedictorian of the year award, Ofili Paul won the academic star award, Kupolati Boluwatife and Sodiq Buhari received moral and good character awards respectively.
