AS a way of promoting interest in technical and vocational education in Nigeria, the National Business and Technical Education Board (NABETB), has appealed to both the national and states’ Assemblies to legislate on the establishment of more modern and well equipped technical colleges in all the 774 local government areas in the country.

This he said would fast track the realisation of the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan in the area of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Registrar of NABTEB, Dr. Olatunde Aworanti, stated this when he announced the release of the 2014 November/December National Business Certificate/National Technical Certificate and the Advanced National Business Certificate/Advanced National Technical Certificate examinations.

At the event, he also suggested that the National Vocational Qualifications Framework (NVQF) should be implemented as approved.

According to Aworanti, there was also the need for collaboration between public and private sectors in the funding of technical and vocational education in Nigeria.

“The three tiers of government should embark on youth empowerment programmes through which the working class/out of school candidates will be opportuned to learn a trade for a living.”

He said that 45, 725 candidates recorded five credit passes and above in English Language and Mathematics, representing 67.01 per cent success in the NBC/NTC examinations, as against the 36.64 per cent recorded in May/June examinations.
