NECO unveils OMR digital scanning machine

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has unveiled optical mark recognition (OMR) digital scanning machines capable of processing 15,000 sheets per hour.

The Registrar /Chief Executive Officer NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, while inaugurating the OMR digital scanning machine at the NECO ICT Scanning Centre, Minna, on Thursday,6th March 2025, revealed that NECO was the earliest examination body in Africa to acquire the machine, adding that it can make the job of NECO efficient and effective.

Professor Wushishi emphasized that the machine can process 15000 sheets per hour, if compared to their old Machines, that number of sheets will take the organization two weeks to process.

“With this machine, the number of days that we take to process result and release results will be reduced, noting that the machine would also reduce the number of men deployed to maned Machines, that is why it course for big celebration by the entire staff of NECO,” Wushishi said.

He appreciated the Bureau for Public Procurement for approving the purchased of the machine.

Earlier, the Director, ICT Department, NECO, Mr. Goddy Usioboh, highlighted that the acquisition and commissioning of the Scantron Insight 15000C is a testament to the NECO’s commitment to leverage technology to achieve its goals.

The ICT boss explained that the Scantron Insight 15000C is a high-performance Optical Mark Recognition(OMR), scanner known for its precision, speed, and ability to handle large volumes of scripts.
