Covenant-universityNigeria has been selected as one of the three African countries to pilot the University Sales Education Project leading to the award of sales-specific bachelors and masters’ degrees. The other countries are Ghana and Kenya.

This was made known at a two-day Future Ready University Conference, held recently at Covenant University (CU), Ota, Ogun State. Organised by Softcom, a company founded and run by two alumni of CU and sponsored by Samsung, MTN and Diamond Bank, the conference was also targeted at using technological platforms to build thriving tertiary institutions in Africa.

External Relations Director of Foundation for Sales Education & Development (FSED), Mr. Ron Mgbatogu, at the event stated that the future of commerce in Nigeria and indeed Africa depends on the abundance of strong and capable sales talent.

He said, “We see a great alignment between what the Future-Ready University Programme is trying to achieve using technology and what the FSED is doing, as a core part of our enablement programmes in producing a potent work force for the African economies.

“We are investing in research and learning facilities for universities that run Sales degree programmes, with the aim of improving teaching capability, especially in delivering content from the massive global body of knowledge available today on Sales, the FSED boss informed.

He added, “FSED is established to promote the development of university level educational programmes in sales across Africa through corporate-academia partnerships that will ensure that Sales-specific contents are integrated into undergraduate and postgraduate studies curricular, especially in business and the social sciences.

The conference also gave birth to the roadmap that delivered “The Experience Centre,” which is at the heart of the partnership of the four bodies, including the host institution.

Vice Chancellor of Covenant University, Prof. Charles Ayo, led the Managing Partner of Softcom, Mr. Yomi Adedeji, the CEO of Diamond Bank, Mr. Uzoma Dozie, Managing Director of Samsung, West Africa, Mr. Brovo Kim, and two top representatives of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Kayode Odedina and Mrs. Uwem Asomugha, to launch the “Experience Centre’.

The foundation is a not-for-profit organisation, which pursues her mandate through university endowments, academic research grants, scholarships, contributions to government policy on higher education, and donations to universities, including support to university libraries with books, academic journals and research materials.
