The National Association of Science Students, (NASS) have raised alarm about some imposters trading on names of students association to hand out fake awards to people in corridor of power.

Speaking at the association’s national convention held in Nasarawa State University, Keffi which elected the new Executive, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Danladi David a student of the University of Jos who supervised the convention said the association would soon alert the security agencies on the unwholesome activities of these impostors.

He said, ” Some individuals who are not even students go about giving the award to people in the corridor of power in the name of our association which we will soon inform the police and other security agencies”

He stated that it was such unwholesome trading with the name of the association that had kept it dormant for some years now.

The newly inaugurated president of the association, Comrade Umar Jafar from the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, MAUTECH, said he will walk across the lengths and breadth of the country to galvanise science students to bring their know-how to propel the country to greater heights.

Comrade Jafar who also spoke on the relegation of the activities of the Association which had been dormant for a while again expressed worries over trading the association name with nefarious intentions.

Comrade Jafar said,” before now several persons who are not even students have been going about giving fake awards to people in the corridors of power and that must be stopped”.

He said his administration would focus on reuniting science students through organising science-related activities that would be beneficial to the growth of education in Nigeria.

The new elected Executive are Umar Jafar President; Suhailu Yahaya, Vice President and Hassan Shamsudeen, Secretary-General

Others are Abubakar Mainasara, Vice-President(External); Wetkur Ribetmun, Assistant Secretary-General and Cynthia Okechukwu, Treasurer, among others.

Delegates at the convention who were particularly worried about how the activities of the Association went into abeyance for that long tasked the new executive on the management of finances which they noted is the banana peel of most executives.

Corporal Kassim Nura, who led the security agencies that supervised the electoral process appreciated the conduct of the delegates and aspirants describing it as peaceful.

NASS is an umbrella association of students from all the tertiary institutions in the country.
