NUC urges community support for universities
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has called on host communities of universities to support the project and programs of the schools, which it said would fast track development in such areas.
The Head, Directorate for the Establishment of Private Universities (DEPU) in the commission, Abdullah Hamza who stated this during an inspection visit to the proposed Mudiame University, located in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State said the community is always better for it once it has a university.
“That is why we always call for cooperation from host communities because it will positively affect the social and economic life of the people.”The team also visited the host Esan Central Local Government Council, Esan Police Area Command and the electricity distribution company.Hamza said the visit was one of the necessary steps to the insuance of operational licence to private universities. He added that the visit was also to formally inform stakeholders that the proposed university had officially applied to the NUC for licence to operate.
The leader of the six-man delegation, at the end of the exercise remarked that though it was premature to give his assessment, he was impressed with the level of progress so far made by the promoter, Sunny Eromosele and described the initiative as a laudable project that will bring development to the community and nation at large.
In his remark, Eromosele said his vision was to establish an institution that understands and promotes excellence, professionalism and integrity, which are key ingredients for social, economic and technological transformation.
He stated that his company, Mudiame International Limited had committed the resources required to ensure the achievement of the vision of the university within the set time.Eromosele commended members of the planning committee, describing them as experienced and dutiful personality with high enthusiasm to achieve results.
