All is now set for the first convocation ceremony of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, where the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, will deliver the maiden convocation lecture of the school, which formally began operations in 2012.

The event scheduled for Saturday, November 19, 2016, at the university, will feature the investiture of Dr. Christopher Kolade, as its chancellor. There would also be conferment of degrees and prizes on eligible students at the convocation, which would be chaired by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.

Addressing newsmen on activities lined up, vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Adeniyi Agunbiade, said the university was established by The Foursquare Gospel Church to help raise a godly generation and produce highly skilled human resources.

The university, named after the founder of the church, Aimee Semple McPherson, an American lady evangelist, he noted, was licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

He said the mission of the institution is “to provide qualitative, functional and sound education, with godly virtues that will prepare men and women for leadership and positive impact on the society.”

He said through its initiative tagged, “Brain Trust,” the university instituted a culture of celebrating excellence and creating an avenue for healthy rivalry, by recognising exceptional abilities in academic performance of students.

“The initiative focuses on students with Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.5 and above at the end of each session. The sole aim is to stimulate the spirit of excellence and hard work among our students.”

He said the school since inception has impacted her host communities positively, through enhanced medical services provided by the health centre.
