The Guardian Columnist and member, Editorial Board, Mr Martins Oloja and the Director, Standard Mandate International (SMI), Dr Nelson Ayodele, have stressed the need for students to be industrious in order to achieve maximum success in their endeavors.

Speaking at the 2018 Students Academic Success Summit (SASS) in Lagos recently, Oloja said it is imperative for students to take Mathematics and English Language seriously if they are to succeed in the 21st century.

According to him, with good knowledge of Mathematics and English Language, other subjects would be a walk over. Speaking on the topic, ‘The importance of higher education in the twenty first century’, Oloja noted that the certificate students obtain is expected to make them acquire skills that would make a big difference in their lives.

Dr Ayodele on his part, said students can achieve great success’ when they devote more time to their academics, play less, have time table for their studies and spend less time on the social media. They should also keep good relationship and not succumb to peer pressure.’Similarly, Mrs Jane Okeke, who represented the administrator of Holy Child College, Antionette Opara urged the students to maximize opportunities and time they have.

Okeke, who spoke on the topic, ‘The great opportunities’ stated that ‘when opportunities knock you can’t say come back later. Opportunities inspire hope, don’t get discouraged. Opportunities are missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and look like work’. With the theme: ‘Maximum Success’; Ayodele added that the purpose of organising the programme was to provide an orientation for students that would be writing their final examination in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), National Examination Council (NECO) as well as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and guide them through the examinations.

“We intend achieving this by bringing erudite scholars and motivational speakers that will give them the strategies that will make them pass the exam with ease and we also invite examiners to provide the guidelines the students need to watch out for so that they scale through the examination without stress.

According to him, ‘ we also encourage them to understand that success is not only in academics; they must come out of school with distinction. They must also be of god character and focus on their future. So we want them to achieve success in all ramifications.Examiners from WAEC and JAMB also enlighten the students on how they can pass their examinations in flying colours.
