The Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has disclosed that of over 50, 000 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates that applied to the institution for the 2024/2025 session, only 12,590, representing 25.2 per cent, secured admission.

Olatunji-Bello, who disclosed this at the matriculation ceremony for admitted students, assured of a conducive learning environment that will make their experiences worthwhile. She, however, urged them to be of good behaviour by shunning vices that could truncate their academic pursuit.

“As young men and women who are desirous of a brighter future, you are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of our university, and committed to your studies. LASU ranks ninth best among 298 universities in Nigeria.

“So, be regular in attending lectures, do your assignments, shun deviant behaviours, avoid indecent dressing, carefully select your friends (as bad friends destroy good habits), shun cultism, examination malpractice, hooliganism and other vices that could expose you to danger, as those found culpable of any will be dealt with in line with our disciplinary mechanisms as a university,” Ibiyemi-Bello warned.

She clarified that while there is freedom as a university, it is with limitations and obligations for both students and staff members to always do the right things.

“We want you to graduate in record time and positively impact society through your fields of endeavour, not only in Nigeria, but at a global scale and I wish you all well,” she added.
