Organisers want more female participation as registration for the 2016 PZ Cussons Chemistry Challenge (PZCCC) for secondary school pupils in Lagos State gets underway.

Speaking during a stakeholders parley ahead of the competition, Corporate Affairs Director, PZ Cussons, Mrs. Yomi Ifaturoti, stated that interested schools have been instructed to ensure at least one female contestant makes their school’s team.

Ifaturoti, who said the need to encourage more Nigerian kids to embrace the learning of sciences informed the firm’s decision to institute the contest, adding that entry for the yearly competition, which is the fourth in the series, would close in the second week of February 2017.

The contest, she said, would take place in four stages, which would involve written and practical tests. She said, “The science competition is designed to stimulate and inspire the learning of chemistry amongst students. This edition is also giving voice to promoting girl child education. We encourage participating schools to register at least one female candidate in their teams.”

Ifaturoti added that all registered candidates with duly attested dockets will seat for the examination across five centres in Lagos, from which 100 participants with the best results will move to the next stage. From the second stage, 24 participants with the best results will compete in another round of practical test only, from which the top six will emerge to go to the finals.
