Poly expels nine students, suspends 18 others for alleged exam malpractice

Management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO), Owo, Ondo State, formerly known as Ondo State Polytechnic, has expelled nine students and suspended 18 others for their alleged involvement in examination malpractice and other misconducts.

Management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO), Owo, Ondo State, formerly known as Ondo State Polytechnic, has expelled nine students and suspended 18 others for their alleged involvement in examination malpractice and other misconducts.

According to a circular with reference number POLY/R/PR/Vol.4/84, which was signed by the institution’s Director of Public Relations and Publicity, Mr. Yemi Suleeman, the affected students were found guilty of the offence.

The statement revealed that the decision was taken at the special meeting of the Board of Studies (BOS), held on Friday, January 17, 2020.It said the report from the Examination Malpractice Investigation Committee (EMIC) on second semester examinations of 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 academic session found the victims guilty of the offences.

For the 18 students who were suspended, the statement claimed they were involved in various misconducts, including bringing in and using of incriminating materials, copying from each other and for assaulting invigilators.

Also some students in examination groups like Public Administration (ND2); Quantity Surveying (ND2) and Business Administration and Management (ND2), had their examinations cancelled and special examination would be conducted for the affected examination groups.The management has directed all heads of departments to note the management’s decision and ensure strict compliance.
