Rotary donates 30 lifeboats to Makoko School
Rotary Club of Mushin Metropolitan District 9110, Nigeria, has donated 30 lifeboats to Whanyinna School and Makoko communities in Lagos State.
President, Dr. Chiugo Okpareke Ezeoke, said since education is the best and lasting legacy for children, no child should be left behind.
Ezeoke disclosed that the donation was aimed at boosting water transportation, educational development and healthy life style, while also reducing the pains of students.
Ezeoke said she was overwhelmed by the unity, love and cooperation of the eight communities, leaders and youths who supported the project.
She observed that in the community, there is only one borehole and assured that the association will provide two free boreholes in the next months to reduce water challenges.
Receiving the gift on behalf of the school, head teacher, Mr Sunday Shemede, lauded the club and assured that the pupils would not abuse the privilege.
Shemede said donation of lifeboats would give pupils a new lease of life, improve punctuality, confidence and academic activities.
Community Development Chairman, New Makoko, Benson Filatei, told The Guardian how the 30 lifeboats were distributed between the school and communities.
Filatei thanked the club for the noble support, since government cannot do it alone and called on other groups to emulate the association.
