Schools close in Katsina amid renewed bandit attacks

Authorities in Katsina State have ordered the closure of schools in Guga district, Bakori Local Government Area, following renewed attacks by suspected bandits in Dabaro, Faskari Local Government Area.

The latest attack, which occurred on Thursday, reportedly left several residents dead and dozens of cattle rustled, escalating concerns over security in the southern part of the state.

A security analyst, Bakatsine, confirmed the development on Thursday in a social media post.

“This morning, bandits attacked Dabaro in Faskari LGA, Katsina State. They killed several people and rustled many cattle. Insecurity in Katsina South continues to deteriorate, as residents report the closure of schools in Guga due to rising threats,” Bakatsine stated.

Katsina is among the states in northwestern and central Nigeria experiencing persistent insecurity due to armed groups operating in the region.

The groups, often referred to as bandits, have been responsible for attacks on communities, kidnappings, and cattle rustling. They operate from camps located in the vast forests spanning Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger states.

The security situation has also led to several school closures in recent years, following incidents of mass abductions of students.
