ACCOLADES and commendations aplenty flowed from parents and stakeholders to the management of Greensprings Schools, Lagos, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary amid pomp.

Beyond striving to enthrone academic excellence and in the process help in furthering the country’s educational growth, the school was particularly commended for changing with the times and striving to deliver 21st Century-compliant education to children that walk through its doors.

Speaking toThe Guardian at the school’s 30th anniversary lecture, which had as its theme, “The Future of Education in an Uncertain World: Redefining Education in Africa,” Managing Director of Precedence Concept Limited, Mr. Tony Adamu, stated that the school has made tremendous effort in changing the face of education in the country.

According to him, “The teaching methodology in Greensprings School has kept pace with the latest trends by jettisoning the outdated traditional teacher-lecturing style and making use of 21st century pedagogy and other child-centred activities. “My children who graduated from the school have benefited from a sustainable, holistic and world-class education.”

“Nigeria is over 55 years. So, if an individual with limited resources, from a localised part of the country has done this, our country should do more.  If the Nigerian government with its huge funds and resources can do one tenth of what the founder of this school, Mrs. Lai Koiki has done, there would be no issue of insurgency or people living in improvised environments.”

He advised the Federal Government that individuals like Koiki should be incorporated into government circles to boost the educational sector as the government stands to gain a lot from her experiences and wealth of knowledge.

On her part, Chief Executive Officer, Goodness Project, Mrs. Jane Ochi, while describing the school as one of the best in West Africa, noted that Greensprings School students are thoroughly groomed in sound character formation, blessed with good behavioural pattern and are also beneficiaries of balanced education.

She urged government to partner the private sector so as to tap from the abundance of ideas and initiative that would help it reform the public schools system.

A former teacher at Federal Government College, Kwali, Abuja, Mrs. Olayinka Duni, confessed that the Montessori training she acquired at Greensprings School in the past has helped in the discharge of her duties as a Chemistry teacher.

Executive Director and founder of the school, Mrs Lai Koiki, expressed delight that the seed she sowed 30 years ago has germinated, if not fully grown.
