THE need to acquaint students with various opportunities that would enable them make appropriate career choices in the oil and gas sector sectors, informed the Third Deep Water Open Day Forum of Total E&P Nigeria Limited (TEPNG), Deep Water District.

Select secondary school students from both public and private institutions participated at the one-day forum, in which staff members of the company graphically demonstrated series of work and operations of the sector.
Held at Total Tower Staff Canteen, Lagos, with the theme, “The Dreams of Today are the Realities of Tomorrow,” the speakers in their individual presentations provided participants with success tips and guides that would help them achieve loftier goals in life.

Manager of Tax and keynote speaker, Louis Ogbeifun, informed the participants that dreams would remain dreams until they were vigorously pursued and made to become realities.
He, however, advised them not to give up on their dreams due to perceived inability. Rather, they should set targets and make conscientious efforts to achieve the targets.

He further urged them to endeavour to identify their  ‘X (extra) factor, as one’s X factor has the capability to attract attention and provide one with a lifetime breakthrough.
He said, “Find your X-Factor, it will make you in life. Your X-factor is the extra factor you have that attracts the next attention and gives you an edge over others. It will give you a breakthrough in life. If you discover it, always practice and perfect it.”

Deputy Managing Director, Lagos District, Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria (TUCN), Mr. Musa Ahmadu-Kida, said the initiative was designed to expose secondary school students to industry activities and guides to future career development.
Represented by the Executive General Manager, Authorities and Regulatory Agencies, Mr. Olalere Babasola, Ahmadu-Kida, highlighted that the company recognises the need for youths to be rightly equipped (information inclusive), so as to excel in life.

He said, “As part of our company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy to our society and its citizens, the Open Day is designed to be a yearly youth development programme, organised by the company, both in Deep Water and Joint Venture districts. The objective is to afford students the opportunity to plan their future careers by exposing them to industry activities and professionalism.”

In her response, Lagos Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Education, Dr. Idiat Adebule, who was represented by the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, commended the company for the initiative urging the students to be determined and focused in the pursuit of their dreams.
The duo of Morayo-Oluwa Adejoke of Lagoon Secondary School and Popoola Basit, of Ebute Elefun Senior High School, Sura, Lagos Island, described the programme as an eye opener and a quick journey into their academic journey.
