Chairman, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Abuja, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Matazu, has stressed the need for students to be exposed to academic options and choices early in life through career guidance and counselling.

Speaking during the third edition of Promasidor Nigeria Limited’s Career Guidance workshop for secondary schools in FCT, Matazu said appropriate guidance to career choices helps unlock the understanding of students in identifying their potentials and setting their life goals.

Tagged “Promasidor harness your dream,” Matazu, represented by Board Member 1 of UBEB, Abuja, Alhaji Usman Yahaya, disclosed that the initiative is in line with UBEB’s directive that “Education for all is the responsibility for all.”

He stated that through the programme, students would be able to know the steps to take to reach their career objectives. This he added will also help in placing them in leadership and entrepreneurial positions in future.

Managing Director of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Mr. Anders Einarsson, said the programme was launched in Lagos to help public school students understand varieties of career options and guide them along that path with Promasidor staff members serving as resource persons.

Einarsson, who was represented by the Head, Legal and Public Relations, Mr. Andrew Enahoro, explained that it was initiated as the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative to enhance students’ knowledge in making informed decisions on the right choice of career. The CSR strategy of the company, he added focuses on education, health, empowerment and sports.

He explained that students at the JSS3 level were the main target because they would be faced with the task of choosing relevant subjects that would determine their future careers in the next academic session.
