Uwakwe pledges to reposition NECO

Registrar/Chief Executive of National Examinations Council (NECO), Charles Brommeo Uchenna Uwakwe, has assured that his leadership will spearhead efforts that would spur the council’s attainment of international status.

In a chat with newsmen in Minna, Niger State shortly after the recent release of the June/July 2016 Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE), his first assignment in that capacity, Uwakwe said he would achieve this by improving and upholding the standard already set by his predecessors.

He pledged that his administration would not do anything that would lower the standard, but rather continue to maintain the values for which the council is reputed for.

Commending the council’s item writers, examiners and external monitors for their valued support and partnership with the council, the Professor of Counselling and Health Psychology added: “This has contributed in no small measure to the acceptance of NECO result by institutions of higher learning in Nigeria and the rest of the world.”

He further disclosed that in line with the Federal Government’s determination to stamp out corruption and impunity in the civil service, his leadership has come up with new ethos that will guide the council in all its operations.

“The ethos includes professionalism, service delivery, punctuality, client satisfaction, precise and accurate information, good attitude, integrity, commitment, zero tolerance for impunity and excellence. Permit me to use this opportunity to solicit for support from all our stakeholders especially from members of the press. NECO should be seen as a Nigerian baby that requires the care and support of all, to enable her attain that first class international status.

“I must commend the indefatigable NECO staff. You are civilians dressed in military psyche. I appreciate your alertness, commitment, sacrifice and your resourcefulness, which has resulted in NECO making her mark in the global assessment industry. I implore you to continue with your good work as our partnership has helped in the realisation of NECO’s mandate as it concerns global awareness,” Uwakwe stated.
