Varsity charges graduates to turn challenges to opportunities

The Chancellor, Trinity University, Lagos, Samuel Adedoyin, has advised the institution’s fresh graduates not to be discouraged by the country’s numerous challenges, but to become change-makers and innovators that Nigeria needs.

Adedoyin, who gave the advice at the third convocation ceremony of the university, enjoined them to emulate other Nigerian youths, who despite the odds, are making waves in technology and science on the global stage.

He said: “I urge you to remember that Nigeria’s future is bright and the possibilities are endless. Young Nigerians are making waves globally, achieving feats that inspire and motivate us. From innovative tech start-ups to ground-breaking scientific discoveries, our youths are proving that they have what it takes to succeed on the world stage.

“You must continue along this trajectory, projecting your family name and the university. I challenge you to be the change-makers, leaders, and innovators that Nigeria needs,” Adedoyin added.

The renowned industrialist noted that the university has equipped them with skills, knowledge, and passion to drive positive change and make a difference. At the event, the chancellor announced the introduction of three new awards, to reward outstanding students and motivate others to strive for excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Kolawole, said the graduands have been trained to face the challenges of the outside world. Chairman of the university governing council, Samuel Olatunji, charged the graduating students to go and make significant impact in the world, saying they have been empowered to lead, and inspired to serve by the learning and culture that the university has impacted on them.

He said the university had a clear vision and mission at its establishment, which is to produce globally competitive graduates and also engage in cutting-edge research and community services, promising continuous commitment to the cause.

Of the 122 graduating students, 28 bagged first class across different departments. Farouq Adedolapo, who studied Computer Science emerged the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.95.
