Educationist tasks govt on curriculum review

Principal, Anglican Comprehensive High School, Awori, Lagos, Joseph Adediji has called on the government to continually review the curriculum to enable the students meet with current trends.

Speaking at a press conference on the forthcoming 50th anniversary of the school, Adediji wondered why teaching and learning methods have remained the same over the years.

“We no longer encourage cramming in recent times but reading to understand, so when a student is asked to define a particular thing in an examination, and such a student quoted verbatim, it defeats the purpose.”

Adediji reassured of the school’s commitment to raising Godly children by teaching the word of God, and engaging them through counselling.

He said the school introduced entrepreneurial classes for its students where they learn skills such as coding, barbing, phone repairs, and catering, among others, to aid their development and financial independence.

National President, Ex-Anglican Comprehensive High School, (Ex-ANCOHS), Femi Lapite, said the association is committed to the development of the school, which they have shown through donations and activities, including the renovation of Physics laboratory, library and Chapel.

Part of the activities lined up for the weeklong event, according to the Co- Chairman, Anniversary Committee, Sunday Ladipo, career talk, medical outreach, inter-college debate and science competition, novelty match; Gala night, lecture and fundraising.
