Elumelu, others to grace launch of Avon Medical facility

Founder and Chairman Hiers Holdings, Tony Elumelu and other distinguished personalities are expected to grace the launch of Avon Medical new facility in Surulere Lagos April 14.

Addressing journalists in Lagos, Chief Executive Officer of Avon Medical, Akinbiyi Oke disclosed that Dr. Awele Elumelu acquired Meridian Medical Services in 2010 and rebranded it as Avon Medical Practice.
He said: “It is a multi-specialist provider headquartered in Lagos. We have a number of facilities and business segments across the country.”

Conducting journalists round the facility, Oke noted that, ‘this is a specialist centre in Surulere. We also have a dialysis centre which also provides other services in Ikeja G.R.A. We have several worksite clinics across the country. One is in Abuja, the Transcorp Hilton Hotel worksite clinic”
He added: “We have the Transcorp Ughelli Worksite clinic in Delta State among others. In Lagos, we have additional worksite clinics. We also work in collaboration with Hares Energies worksite clinic where we supply them medications. This is the diagnostic centre. We have the outpatient unit which is where we are currently. We have the inpatient services and then we have the more specialised critical areas, the operating room, recovery, delivery, neonatal intensive care, the nursery and intensive care units. The diagnostic has the laboratory services, all the different areas of the laboratory services. We have a CT scan. We also have the ultrasound scan. We have the accident unit. We are providing quality, affordable care. What we are going to be doing differently is to ensure that our patient experience is top-notch.”

On her part, Dr. Ejiro Nwachuku, Consultant Radiologist, Head Diagnostics and Dialysis Services, said regarding medical tourism, she think they have what it takes to bridge the gap.

“Healthcare has been made available to all categories of customers. We all know the kind of environments we live in where we have the high-end individuals, we have the middle-class and the low-end,” she said.

Speaking in a similar vein, Head, Human Resources and Admin, Omotoke Okoro, said: “We are not gender bias, but I think we have not got there in this part of the world when a woman is giving birth, and we want a female nurse to deliver her. So, we have considered that when employing for that particular specialty and other specialty within the system. It is one of the reasons why we have more women in the organisation. Other than that, we don’t discriminate. Our roster is quite fixed. It is a great place to work because the pay is competitive and the environment is conducive.”
