TO further strengthen the cordial relationship between Nigeria and China, the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, Mr. Liu Kan, recently hosted pupils and staff members of Itedo Nursery and Primary School, Lekki Phase 1.

The event also added colour to the Consulate’s Open Day activity as well as provided an opportunity for the younger generation of Nigerians, especially students, to have a better understanding of China and Chinese culture.

The event, which was packaged as a cultural exchange programme, gave the pupils and staff members an opportunity to learn some aspects of Chinese culture and national symbols.

Other than the guided tour of the embassy, the pupils also learnt about visa application procedures, taught the meaning of the Chinese national flag and national emblem as well as exposed to the history of the Chinese Consulate.

They also visited the historical photographic gallery showing the bilateral exchange between China and Nigeria; and appreciated the Chinese ancient artworks in the meeting room of the Consulate.

The envoy, Mr. Kan, explained that about 50 students of the school were invited to participate in the programme. “This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a strategic partnership between Nigeria and China. , and the in-depth development of bilateral relation serves the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples,”

Liu Kan said, adding that: “China attaches great importance to the development of its ties with Nigeria and is ready to work in concert with the country to continuously promote the strategic partnership between the two countries to a new height.”

Kan said that in 2014, the Chinese Consulate encouraged and coordinated some Chinese companies in Nigeria to join hands in the China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Action to implement the playground renovation project, which was executed to improve the environment under which the visiting pupils learn.

He stressed that Nigerians and Chinese would work in concert to sustain the relationship. The Head Teacher of the school, Mr. Tolu Ogungbulugbe, in his remarks appreciated the consular general for always impacting positively on the lives of pupils and members of staff of the school.
