Handle It Africa, British Council partner for ‘She Creates’

Handle It Africa, in partnership with the British Council, is set to host She Creates, an exclusive gathering designed to celebrate and empower female creatives across Africa. Aligned with International Women’s Day 2025 and its theme #AccelerateAction, She Creates will bring together 50 influential and emerging women in film, media, design, tech, digital storytelling, and the arts to discuss tangible strategies for growth, visibility, and global impact.

With Africa’s creative industry valued at £2.4 billion in 2024 and projected to quintuple by 2030, women remain underrepresented in leadership and business opportunities. She Creates is more than just a conversation; it is a deliberate effort to break barriers, celebrate achievements, and create opportunities for female creatives to scale their work beyond the continent.

“Holding space deliberately for women in the creative industry is not just necessary; it’s
transformative,” said Funmilayo Ayo-Famurewa , Programmes Director at Handle It Africa. “Too
often, women’s contributions go unseen or are undervalued. She Creates is about changing
that narrative, amplifying their successes, and ensuring they have access to the resources,
networks, and funding needed to thrive.

She Creates will focus on celebrating the achievements of young women who are shaping
Africa’s creative landscape, highlighting their impact and innovation. It will also address the
barriers that continue to limit women’s growth in the industry, from financial challenges to
systemic biases. The event will provide access to opportunities, ensuring that female creatives
can secure funding, build valuable collaborations, and gain the visibility they deserve.

For Olufemi Oguntamu, Founder of Handle It Africa, the partnership with the British Council
represents a long-overdue shift in how female creatives are supported. “For years, African
creativity has shaped global culture, yet many of the women driving these narratives have
remained behind the scenes. She Creates is an investment in their brilliance, their voices, and
their rightful place at the forefront of this industry.”

Through its commitment to cultural exchange and creative empowerment, the British Council is partnering with Handle It Africa to amplify African talents, foster meaningful dialogue, and drive action for women in the creative space.

This exclusive event, accessible strictly by invitation, will take place on Friday, 28th of March, 2025 at the British council in Ikoyi, Lagos. She Creates is not just an event; it is the beginning of a movement to elevate and sustain female-led creativity in Africa
