Firms urge FG to ensure equitable treatment for healthcare professionals

Following the recent tensions within the health sector, Geneith Health Competition (GHC) and CEOAfrica have urged the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, to demonstrate leadership by facilitating inclusive dialogue and ensuring equitable treatment for all healthcare professionals.

They gave this urge following his recent recognition as one of the 100 most influential global figures shaping healthcare worldwide.

In a congratulatory message, the Chairman of Geneith Pharmaceuticals Ltd and sponsor of the Geneith Health Competition GHC, Chief Emmanuel Umenwa alongside Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, MD/CEO of CEOAfrica and initiator of the GHC urged him to uphold the rule of law and guarantee that all health workers enjoy their rightful benefits and privileges

“Your vision, moral integrity, and empathy must guide your decision-making as you navigate the complexities of Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.”

In a joint statement signed by both Umenwa and Ilobanafor, they expressed that Prof. Pate’s recognition is not only an honor but also a testament to his transformative leadership and innovative contributions to health system reforms, both nationally and internationally.

“We are proud to congratulate you on this well-deserved honor, it symbolizes the profound impact you have made in shaping healthcare perspectives globally,” they said.

GHC noted that this accomplishment sheds light on Nigeria’s growing visibility in global health leadership and aligns seamlessly with the broader goals of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to implement life-enhancing reforms across various sectors.

Additionally, the statement acknowledged Pate’s extensive contributions to primary healthcare, particularly during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA).

“Your steadfast commitment to healthcare system reforms, health equity, and strengthening primary healthcare is commendable,” they remarked, praising his efforts to revitalize frontline health facilities and expand the community health workforce, essential for improving maternal, newborn, and child health services.

They emphasised Prof. Pate’s instrumental role in advancing Nigeria’s efforts to combat malaria, particularly through the rollout of malaria vaccines.

“This strategic move is critical in tackling malaria, which accounts for nearly 65 per cent of clinical visits in our country,” they emphasised.

The organisation also commended the Minister’s governance approach, focusing on fostering partnerships among government entities, development partners, and the private sector, which has enhanced transparency and attracted necessary investments in the healthcare space.

Regarding pharmaceutical development, GHC praised Prof. Pate’s commitment to local drug manufacturing, describing it as a transformative shift capable of enhancing Nigeria’s health sovereignty and strengthening the pharmaceutical value chain.

The organisation underscored the significance of collaborative healthcare practices and encouraged Prof. Pate to continue promoting team-based approaches, which have proven to be effective in health systems worldwide.

“Despite the complexity of our health challenges, we believe you are well-positioned to develop sustainable solutions that encourage interprofessional cooperation,” they concluded.

GHC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and partnering with the government to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria. They wished Prof. Pate continued success in his role.
