A man who promised to trek from Lagos to Abuja if Muhammadu Buhari wins the presidential election, Hasheem Suleiman, has begun the journey and is presently in Niger State.

Suleiman, who was in Lagos when Buhari was announced the President-elect on March 31, began the journey at about 5am the next day.

Suleiman had vowed two years ago to trek from wherever he was to the capital of Nigeria, Abuja, if Buhari emerges the winner of the poll in 2015.

The distance between Lagos and Abuja is about 700km. The Katsina State indigene, who was born in Osun on Monday received a royal welcome in Minna as he arrived Bida after 13 days on the road and covering about 573km.

He was given a royal welcome in Bida Kingdom by HRH Yahaya Abubakar and was also handed over a white envelope. Suleiman intends to reach Abuja by May 27 and celebrate with the new president at his inauguration ceremony.
