The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has granted full accreditation to Gregory University Uturu (GUU) College of Medicine and Health Sciences in Abia State.
GUU was approved and licensed as a university by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2012 and its medical programme in 2017, is among the 75 Universities/Medical Institutions whose Colleges of Medicine and Health Sciences accreditation was recently published by the MDCN.
This development has brought to the forefront the persevering efforts of GUU to produce medical professionals who can attend to the health needs of Nigerians globally.
GUU Deputy Registrar, Communication, Sleek Ogwo, said that the recent accreditation by the MDCN has brought to the forefront the exemplary efforts of GUU and stands out as a shining example of commitment to excellence in medical education.
Ogwo told The Guardian that this achievement is an attestation to the vision and dedication of the GUU Founder, Prof Gregory Ibe “who has spearheaded the development of GUU College of Health and Medical Sciences, culminating in the building of a state-of-the-art 1000-bed Teaching Hospital located at Ezinnachi in Okigwe council, Imo state.
GUU Spokesman disclosed that the teaching hospital is nearing completion, and poised to become a hub for technology-aided health delivery in the South East and South-South regions.
“This milestone also marks a significant step towards reducing medical tourism in Nigeria, as patients will have access to world-class medical facilities and expertise within the country, adding that the full accreditation of the GUU’s medical programme is a resounding endorsement of the institution’s commitment to producing highly skilled and competent medical professionals.”
