HACEY Initiative has called for the implementation of girls’ right, saying it would help eliminate many disadvantages faced by females. Co-founder, HACEY Initiative, Isaiah Owolabi, said that sensitising the girl child about their rights would also help in curbing gender-based violence in the country.

He made this statement at the Girl Child Summit in Lagos themed, ‘Advancing Girls Health, Empowerment and Right’, organised by the Initiative. He urged the government to review its policies so as to include laws hinged on the protection of girls’ rights. He noted that access to education and quality health services would enable young girls to make informed decisions.
“Girls should have access to education, quality health services and everything else. It’s important that they know their rights and speak up, owing to the increased cases of gender-based violence in the society.
“We need the entire society to define a new pathway and ensure girls’ rights are included when strategic decisions are made. The government must show that it prioritises women and girls by taking action and reviewing policies to ensure they meet the criteria,” he said.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Future Software Resources, Nkemdilim Begho, emphasised on the importance of empowering girls for a digital world, stating that technology has since transformed the world and continues to evolve. She urged parents to be supportive of their girl child who wants to venture into technology, noting that the field is not gender sensitive.
“As parents we need to make sure we play our role and make sure our boys and girls are ready for the future because technology is going to be in every field and jobs that these kids would do don’t exist yet,” she added.
