Determined to increase insurance education among Nigerians, NEM Insurance Plc has adopted regular exercise and fitness walks yearly to address the low insurance penetration in the country.
According to the insurance company, that is also part of its contribution to promoting insurance education and awareness, which helps to increase penetration and uptake of insurance in Nigeria.
Speaking on the benefits of exercise, yesterday during the Fitness Walk in Lagos, the Chairman of NEM Insurance, Tope Smart, said this would help the workers who could not take advantage of the in-house gym to keep fit and have an alternative avenue to exercise for better productivity.
The Walk, which comes up twice a year, precisely in March and November each year, was meant to ensure insurance practitioners are physically and mentally fit to sell insurance products and services.
Smart noted that only someone who is physically and mentally fit can practice insurance as a profession.
He said the company initiated the fitness walk as a form of exercise as well as enhanced insurance awareness among Nigerians.
Stating that while exercise is good for the body, it’s also an avenue to promote the name and insurance products of the company for people within its environs.
According to him, we have been able to create awareness about insurance as we walk because people kept asking who we are and what we do, and in the process of answering them, we are educating them and deepening insurance penetration,” he said.
While urging Nigerians to insure their risk exposures, he advised people to approach his underwriting firm for their general insurance products and services.
One of the participants Abosede Olatunde, during the exercise, interacted with the journalists and believed that the growth of the insurance industry requires collective efforts, saying, that the media is critical to stakeholders in the journey to develop the insurance segment of the nation’s economy.
