Wikimedia User Group Nigeria distances self from Guinness Record attempt in Calabar
The Wikimedia User Group Nigeria (WUGN) wishes to categorically state that it is not involved in, nor aware of, neither any of our members is involved in the ongoing Guinness World Record attempt reportedly taking place in Calabar, Nigeria, which is alleged to be causing disruptions on Wikimedia projects.
Recent discussions within the English Wikipedia community have highlighted editing disruptions linked to this record attempt. While WUGN has no direct knowledge of this activity’s details or organisers, we are monitoring the situation better to understand the developments and their implications for Wikimedia projects.
As a recognised affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation, WUGN remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting ethical contributions, collaboration, and transparency across all Wikimedia projects. Disruptive editing activities or actions that compromise the quality, accuracy, and reliability of Wikimedia content are contrary to these values and the principles upheld by the global Wikimedia movement.
We take this opportunity to remind all contributors and users engaging with Wikimedia projects to respect the established community guidelines and policies that govern these spaces. Wikimedia projects thrive on the collective effort to create and share accessible, reliable, and verifiable knowledge. Activities that undermine these goals detract from the mission of Wikimedia and diminish the trust millions of users place in these resources daily.
WUGN encourages open and constructive dialogue within the Wikimedia community and urges all individuals or groups associated with such activities to engage with Wikimedia communities transparently and responsibly. This will ensure that contributions positively impact the movement and align with its knowledge-sharing mission.
