PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has stressed the need for a strong working relationship between the Federal Government and Kano State, saying it would help to develop the agricultural and commercial potentials of the State . Specifically, he promised the return of groundnut pyramids as one of the measures to bring back the lost glory of the ancient city.

He said such accord was achievable only if the people decide to vote overwhelmingly for the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP)) during the forthcoming general elections.

The President made the observation while commissioning the N2.5 4b Kundila Roundabout Flyover along Zaria Road in Kano city awarded to Messrs. Rocad Construction Limited. The bridge is strategically located at the intersection of two trans Saharan Highways of Ndjamena-Dakar and Lagos-Algiers.

Jonathan named the bridge after the immediate past emir of Kano, Dr. Ado Bayero, who, he said, held the position with dignity and integrity.
According to the president, the reign of the late Monarch was devoid of controversy , hence the need by the federal government to immortalize him in its little way.

The President said Kano as a city was too important be ignored, adding that being the centre of commerce and trade, his administration was committed to uplifting the living standards of people in the state.

He therefore promised that his administration would help the people to revive the groundnut pyramids, as well as the put in place the necessary infrastructure to boost it’s processing and packaging, in the attempt to empower Kano people and boost trade and industry.
Jonathan thanked the people for supporting the party; adding that the recent cross carpeting at the highest level of governance in the state will be corrected in the next round of elections.

“Kano state is one of the important states in Nigeria. This is one of the most important roads that traverse this country. This is a critical infrastructure. That will help to promote commerce and industry. Kano state is known for commercial activities, known for agric, known for trade beyond Nigeria, beyond West Africa.

“It is a state that needs to work with the Federal Government to improve the quality of the life of the people, to improve the productive capacity of the people and generate wealth for the people.

“We love Kano people and will work with you so that we don’t just get the pyramid back, but we are talking about processing. What you produce in your farms, what we produce in our forests, what we get from our soil have to be processed so that we add Value to it so that we can create jobs and wealth for our people. That is why we are very happy that Kano people believe in the leading party, the PDP.”

With the commissioning of the project Kano is now being faced with flyover-politics. In the last few weeks All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, General Buhari, commissioned one of the three flyovers constructed by governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
