Oliseh opens door for Moses, Mikel, others, as Eagles beat Niger 2-0

Super Eagles’ Coach, Sunday Oliseh, has assured Nigerians that Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo and some other players, who have not featured for the country in the current Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup qualifying series, would be integrated into the team before the next set of matches in May, 2016.

Oliseh’ Eagles defeated Niger Republic 2-0 in Port Harcourt yesterday to hand the coach his first victory since he took over the senior national team.

Yesterday’s result comes on the heels of Saturday’s goalless draw with Tanzania, which has left Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2017 Nations Cup hanging on the outcome of the matches against Egypt on March 24, 2015 in Nigeria and March, 2016 in Cairo.

Speaking after the game yesterday, Oliseh said he was in touch with Moses, who has recovered fully from the injury that kept him away from action in recent times, adding that he was monitoring the situation with other players.

He expressed his delight that Moses finally sealed his loan move to West Ham, saying, “I am happy he finally got his loan move and now can play.”

Oliseh also said, “there’s room for Mikel and the rest but so long as they all are playing regularly. All these players that featured against Niger and Tanzania were all playing for their respective teams.”

He praised the players in yesterday’s game, saying, “in terms of defending we did well and when we pressed we did it well but I hope to see the team keep the ball more and dictate the pace of the game.”

In the game played at the Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, stand-in captain, Ahmed Musa, opened scores for Nigeria from the penalty spot on 12 minutes following a foul on Anthony Ujah. Substitute Simon Moses made it 2-0 towards the end of the game.
