MILES away from the Agbara robbery incident, there was also a hail of bullets, which left two people dead, while two policemen were shot in a crossfire near a commercial bank at 23 Road, FESTAC Town in Amuwo-Odofin local council of Lagos State.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Joe Offor, who confirmed the incident, said the policemen were shot when they engaged the robbers, who dispossessed an unsuspected customer of an undisclosed amount of money as he approached the bank to lodge it in.

According to him, the robbers later escaped through the waterways during the gun duel. While dispelling rumours that the robbers were later shot by soldiers on parade, the police PRO said those shot were mistaken as robbers.

According to him, shortly after the incident, residents in the area saw two men in a Honda Accord car and started shouting thief thief, which forced some military men on parade at the scene to open fire. This, he said, led to the death of two people.

He stressed that the body of the victims, have been deposited to the morgue, while the two policemen were receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

What type of trained military personnel would open fire at innocent people, killing them, just because people shouted “thief, thief”. What has become of military intelligence, whereby you evaluate a given situation for potential danger before deploying force. What amount of compensation (if any) could assuage the grieving family/families of these unsuspecting victims ignorantly mowed down by ignorant, unintelligent and brutish individuals who are paid to protect the public, but do otherwise? Where were these same military personnel when the real robbers escaped? This sloppy soldiering and policing need to stop. Nigeria has the resources: human and material, to provide better training and remuneration for our security system.

Governor AMBODE ARE YOU SLEEPING? Do you know as a governor it is not only money allocation or receiving visitors in your office that make you a responsive governor .You can even set up a COMMITTEE to study the different ways you can bring your administration down to affect the life of every citizen in your state by sending a bill to the state assembly that will empower the security agency to enforce the law .The state assembly is not only for money sharing and land grabbing. The killing in your state is becoming too rampant.
