Wike Leads Dream Team Campaign Against Congo
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, yesterday thumbed up the steps taken by the local organising committee (LOC) to ensure that the Rio 2016 Olympic Games’ qualifier between Nigeria’s U-23 team and their Congolese counterpart holds without hitches.
Nigeria meets Congo in a Rio 2016 qualifier, which will also serve as the opening game of the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Speaking shortly after inspecting facilities at the stadium, Wike praised the committee for putting facilities at the stadium in place and expressed confidence that the encounter would be memorable.
He charged the Olympic Eagles to put in their best and do the country proud, adding that the Rivers State government would ensure they got adequate support tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Boma Iyaye, has assured both teams and fans coming to the stadium of maximum security during the encounter.
Iyaye assured all the participants, including the teams and fans, that Rivers State Government in its usual tradition would give their best to ensure a memorable match with all the associated drama, passion and wonderful atmosphere obtainable anywhere in the world.
He explained that adequate security and logistics have been put in place for a hitch-free match, just as he called on all football fans to come out en masse to cheer the dream team to victory.
The LOC chairman noted the importance the administration of Governor Wike attached to sports, saying the governor was determined to re-launch Rivers State on the map of sports development in Nigeria.
He said the gates of the stadium would be opened by 11.00 a.m., adding there would be free vehicles at different points in the city to convey fans to the stadium.
