Heineken Lagos Fashion Week in partnership with Style House Files, Fets Wallet, Fayrouz, and Canon launches the first ever Green Access Competition and 2018 Visual Makers Fellowship.

Green Access is a competition that aims to raise awareness amongst Nigerian students of the need to make sustainable choices in the Nigerian fashion industry and simultaneously, discover raw fashion talent.

Sustainability is at the forefront of global fashion conversations. More and more fashion enterprises are transforming their business models and embracing strategies towards more environmentally, socially and ethically conscious production. Locally, designers such as Emmy Kasbit, Maki Oh, Zashadu, Nkwo, and JZO utilize and source traditionally crafted materials, in an effort to support artisan craft, grow economic status and sustain generational craftsmanship of indigenous fabrics such as Adire, Akwete, Aso Oke, and Leather.

“We are committed to the Sustainable Development Goals and plan to utilize the Lagos Fashion Week platform to facilitate dialogues and implement initiatives within the African fashion industry. It is important these conversations trickle down to the new generation of talents, raising the consciousness of the need to create and effectively incorporate sustainable practices into the production cycle.” – Omoyemi Akerele, Founder Style House Files, and Lagos Fashion Week.

Fifteen (15) selected Green Access finalists will be commissioned to design one (1) outfit each, and gain promotion through participation in a fashion film and photo shoot.

The Visual Makers Fellowship in partnership with Canon was specially created to discover, nurture and support budding image makers in the Nigerian Fashion scene and fine-tune their skills as Fashion Photographers and Filmmakers.

Successful Visual Maker Applicants will receive accreditation invitation to shoot for Lagos Fashion Week and will be provided with access to workshops and masterclasses.

Applications close on September 14th, 2018.
