Do2dTUN’s story is one of an unending passion for perseverance. Oladotun Ojulape Kayode is an on-air-personality (OAP), media mogul, voice-over artist, sound engineer and hype man from an average, religious family. From falling in love with radio in his teenage years, he has grown to become the Cool FM icon and face of all things radio, media and hype.

Do2dTUN, having found his place of happiness and growth, shared his story with Guardian Life.

What made you decide to become an OAP?

It’s something I have always wanted to do. My dad bought me transistor radios even when it wasn’t my birthday and insisted I stay abreast of what was going on. One major [factor that led to my decision was my persona. I was considered to be] very witty and spontaneous. More importantly, it is one of the most creative careers and I feel endeared to it all the time.

What do you like about this profession?

I love the power it gives you to touch lives, lift a dying spirit and elevate the mind. The requirements are endless to be top notch in this field but it definitively adds to your personality so much that it emits a standard that raises a strong character of reputable value.

If you weren’t an OAP, what other careers would you want to pursue?

I majored in Advertising and Public Relations under Mass Communication. I would have built the biggest ideas and solutions or could have become a creative consultant, invariably owning my advertising agency with the highest level of completed projects.

If we’re sitting here a year from now celebrating what a great year it’s been for you as an OAP, what would you say you’ve achieved?

Great transitioning that is enviable by those who look up to me and my colleagues. For example, I found the new craft that gives youngsters now their daily bread. The craft that everyone almost can’t wait to have at their parties: hype. It is and very soon will be global. I discovered it on the radio because it was a laboratory for me where I practise.

When have you been the most satisfied in your life?

Satisfied? I will be satisfied when I stop breathing. I am very contented, but my satisfaction only lies in my hands, till the hands stop working which I have insured with God. Instead, I’ll be most fulfilled when I have picked up the most plaques and awards in my category of work. I’ll also say when I was booked directly from South Africa to host the Castle Lite concert with JCole, Davido and Wizkid. I knew someone was watching.

Who is your role model and why?

Howard Stern because he is intelligent, confident, cocky, daring and unassuming. Tim Westwood because he is futuristic. Dj Khaled because nothing stops him. He is the biggest believer in himself.

What things do you not like to do?

Lie about giving what I cannot give to get something. I don’t like to party till 5 am and I also hate video shoots. [They] take too long.

What’s your superpower?

My superpower is sometimes seeing things before it happens and the power of conviction. Tested and trusted except I don’t or decide not to pay attention to my intuition or my recurring thoughts. I sometimes blank out because I don’t want to be right.
