When EbonyLife Films released the first of five hilarious teasers, each was designed to reveal intriguing aspects of Chief Daddy, set for release during the Christmas holidays. Within less than 24 hours, the number of retweets, impressions, reposts and likes raced to more than 20 million and, as the weekend progressed, another 3 million people had seen the clip.

With this number, it closes up to Star Wars: The Last Jedi which amassed a total of 26 million “actions”. This only goes on to show that Nigerian films have begun to join the podium.

EbonyLife films is reputedly known for dishing out films such as The Wedding 1& 2 (Nigeria’s highest grossing films) and has successfully made an impression by putting Nigeria in the eye of the international film industry.
Much of the success of Chief Daddy is attributed to the A-listers in the film who put up the teaser on their social media platforms.

With Nollywood favourtie stars such as Funke Akindele, Zainab Balogun, Shaffy Bello, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Mawuli Gavor, Kate Henshaw, Jude ‘MI’ Abaga, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Beverly Naya, Chioma ‘Chigul’ Omeruah, Rachel Oniga, Beverly Osu, Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwor, Joke Silva and Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana among others gracing the screen, it will be interesting to see how the curiosity about this film continues to build up to its cinema release on 14th December.

Executive Producer Mo Abudu is proud of EbonyLife’s track record:

“Over the last three years, we have created compelling, relatable, premium-quality feature films, that have entertained audiences across the globe consistently, These include Fifty, The Wedding Party movies and The Royal Hibiscus Hotel. Three of these movies have been Christmas blockbusters, so we are hoping to continue this tradition. Although we are venturing into international co-productions, our Nigerian audience still comes first, so a big Lagos premiere and local cinema release are essential to our success.”

Once Chief Daddy’s cinema run ends next year, EbonyLife will be looking to emulate the success of its previous films – a successful box-office run; transition to international VoD platforms, such as Netflix and (Amazon) Prime Video; and, finally, screening on all major airlines flying to Nigeria, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, KLM, South African Airlines and Air France.

Chief Daddy seems ready to take it all.
