At the conclusion of their highly publicised trial in June of this year, Amber Heard was found guilty by a jury of defaming Johnny Depp, the star of the film “Pirates of the Caribbean,” in an opinion piece that was published in a newspaper in 2018. She was ordered to pay Johnny Depp more than $10 million in restitution. The 36-year-old is reportedly trying to get two insurance companies to pay for her libel compensation to her ex-spouse by switching lawyers yet again.

In her appeal of the judgement, the actress is being represented by David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown. Heard also added Kirk Pasich to her legal team in an effort to obtain many insurance carriers to pay Heard’s astronomical $15 million in medical expenditures.

Prior to her trial, Heard’s spending reportedly climbed over $8 million, according to Puck News. Now, it appears that her legal team is looking for homeowner’s insurance to pay those expenses.

New York Marine General Insurance Company and Travelers Commercial Insurance Company are at odds. Travellers initially filed a lawsuit against New York Marine in July of last year in an effort to be reimbursed for the cost of defending a client who turned out to be Heard.

Heard had a homeowner’s policy with Travelers that covered “libel” to a point of around $500,000, and she also had a general liability coverage from New York Marine for $1 million.

Travellers’ belief that Heard had the right to select her own attorneys, in contrast to New York Marine’s assertion that the issue was “pretty basic,” proved to be the turning point in the lawsuit. A judge granted New York Marine’s request to hire less expensive local attorneys.

Travellers expressed misgivings and claimed that when the New York Marine selected them, attorneys Timothy McEvoy and Sean Patrick Roche “piggy-backed” on the work of Heard attorneys Roberta Kaplan and Elaine Charlson Bredehoft.

On the other hand, New York Marine asserted that Kaplan and Bredehoft had barred their lawyers from representing them. They now demand $621,693 in repayment for their donation to Heard’s legal defence fund because their attorneys were excluded from a number of court cases.

Heard is currently being sued by the insurers in order to avoid paying into the $10.35 million libel judgement that the actress is expected to pay Depp thanks to a California statute that forbids insurance from covering willful acts. Pasich is Heard’s advocate and is attempting to handle this matter on her behalf.

If the judgement stands after her appeal, Double Jeopardy for Heard might hold her liable for the entire amount since Travelers would want to avoid paying it if Depp could show she made false statements.

At the conclusion of the trial, Depp, 59, received $10 to $15 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.
