Fast-rising gospel artist Utabu Abba David, popularly known as Abbadsinger, has disclosed that his distinct technique of blending gospel songs with Nigerian heritage is culturally symbolic and therapeutic to his ethnically diverse audiences.
He also credited his early exposure to praise and worship sessions as the foundation for his passion for gospel music and his commitment to church activities as a propeller in shaping his path in gospel music.
The Cross River State-born artiste disclosed that he gets inspired by artists who blend deep spiritual messages with captivating melodies, while he appreciates secular artists who convey profound emotions through their music, regardless of genre.
Abbadsinger has released several singles, including: “Risen King” – an Easter melody reflecting on Revelation 1:18, “My Yahweh” – a powerful song emphasising God’s covenant-keeping nature, and “All The Glory” – a heartfelt worship song giving all honour to God.
Speaking on his career in an interview with the Guardian, he noted that he hopes to collaborate with Dunsin Oyekan, produce more spirit-filled music, and mentor upcoming gospel artists to fulfil their divine purposes.
“My musical style is a fusion of contemporary gospel with traditional African rhythms. I aim to create songs that resonate spiritually while celebrating our rich cultural heritage.
“From a young age, I was deeply involved in church activities, starting as a dancer and leading the Young King David Dancers (YKDD). This early exposure to worship and praise ignited a passion for gospel music, leading me to fully embrace music ministry in 2011,” he concluded.
