Selena Gomez Checks Into Mental Health Facility For Emotional Breakdown
International singer and actress Selena Gomez has been admitted into a mental health facility for treatment after she suffered an emotional breakdown and was hospitalized twice in the last 2 weeks.
According to popular celebrity blog, TMZ, sources close to the 26-year-old star said she was at her Studio City, California home in the last week of September when the first emergency hit. The “Bad Liar” singer was reportedly despondent and emotional over an alarmingly low white blood cell count in the wake of her kidney transplant.
As a result, a family member drove her to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was released days later but had to be re-admitted late last week because her low blood cell count persisted, and it threw Selena into a downward emotional spiral.
Soon after she was admitted she insisted on leaving, but doctors said she couldn’t. Subsequently, she had “a meltdown” and “freaked out.” Selena tried ripping the IV’s out of her arm. Several sources called the episode “an emotional breakdown.”
The former Disney child star is currently at an East Coast psychiatric facility and is receiving dialectical behaviour therapy, DBT. The therapy treats various mental health disorders. This wouldn’t be Selena’s first time of receiving DBT.
It should be recalled that Selena revealed in her last Instagram post shared on September 23 that she was taking a break from social media, adding:
Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.
Selena has had to face an onslaught of negative comments recently after her ex, Canadian singer Justin Bieber got engaged to model Hailey Baldwin. Also before leaving social media, Selena did an Instagram Live answering questions from fans and said depression had consumed her life for 5 years.
